Damian Barnes29/02/2024I started with Hummingbird Helicopters in Jan 2023 due to their fantastic reputation and reviews with the intention of completing my PPL (H). Michael and Simon have been fantastic in both the ground teaching and airborne instruction, which allowed me to complete my course in eleven months. If you are thinking of using Hummingbird, I cannot recommend them highly enough, so much so, I'm now doing my hours building with them. I came to Hummingbird for a bespoke CPL(H) course to satisfy 'training as required' to qualify me for an R44 Type Rating and a CPL(H) Skill Test recommendation. The team were helpful throughout the process, and provided the training in a considered and professional manner that ensured that I was ready for test. The manner of training provision and the level of clear communication throughout a period of poor weather and my unavailability meant that I could complete the training at minimum cost, while being confident that I was well prepared. Dominic Priestley01/08/2023Learning to fly is a big commitment. Hummingbird Helicopters were able to offer advice and answer all of my questions when first enquiring, early 2022. Their guidance was very fair, even suggesting that I consider all helicopter schools before booking. However they were still the best value! They currently provide PPL, CPL and instructor training, and have Robinson R22s and R44 available, so are ideal for anyone looking to become a student and progress. The instructors are absolutely brilliant - skilled, very knowledgeable and able to constantly develop and improve the student. No minute of flying and no learning opportunity is ever missed or wasted, which, given the cost of flying is invaluable. Being based out of Humberside International Airport, you also get the chance to become familiar with the radio - again squeezing out every bit of value from the training. Great location, clear instructions, made to feel welcome at the briefing so 5 star before even in the helicopter. Wendy Collins19/06/2022Can not recommend hummingbird helicopters enough , our son was 17year old when he started flying lessons with them , they have instructed and advised him all along the way and he feels confident and totally at ease with all their instructors, special praise for Mike and SImon who have always been very approachable and professional, josh is now over half way through His ppl and loves it . carlos tiefenthaler06/06/2022I have just finished three days of training with the boys at Hummingbird. What a brilliant experience! Instructors Simon Wiles and Michael Hall run a tight ship, both consummate professionals, but warm and friendly guys at heart. The instruction is of an exceptionally high standard. The school operates two Robinson 22s, one of which is brand spanking new and is dressed in that sexy metallic grey one usually sees on an Aston Martin. She is an absolute beauty! Doncaster airfield poses a new level of challenge with a higher level of procedures and RT, ideal for those with an eye on the higher qualifications. Not to mention that the 737 which taxied behind still tickles me with delight. The school is housed in two offices, the facilities are modern, convenient and very tidy. The atmosphere at the school is personal, both boys were keen to help with whatever challenges I faced on the day, even if it took some repeating. Two hours flying and the remainder of the day was classroom training. I wish everyone at Hummingbird Helicopters every success in the future. The initial briefing was straight forward and easy to understand and the instructor was patient, concise, helpful and he made the whole experience a great time. david johnston01/09/2021My wife got me a helicopter flight experience with Hummingbird helicopters with Simon the pilot. It had been cancelled twice due to covid. But Mike was very very helpful. Simon was a very experienced pilot and was able to answer all my questions and was able to reassure me off any worries I had. It was the best day out in my life,not kidding It was fantastic and I will be back,hopefully on a monthly basis. Both Simon and Michael are a credit to Hummingbird Helicopters you couldn't meet a nicer more helpful pair of workers. I can't recommend them highly enough...5 Star service all the way..well done guys....

The Discovery Day is a 4 hour experience broken down into 2 hours of Ground School & 2 hours of Flight Training. It can be taken in the R22 or the R44 and is the perfect gift for you adrenaline junkie friend!
It is a one-to-one course and if you are considering taking your LAPL(H) OR PPL(H) or just looking for a day of real adventure, then this is the ideal course for you!
The Discovery day is a 4 hour experience broken down into 2 hours of Ground School and 2 hours of Flight Training. This is the perfect gift for your adrenaline junkie friend!
This is a one-to-one course and if you are considering taking your LAPL(H) or PPL(H) or just looking for a real day of adventure, then this is the ideal course for you!
Your day will include 2 hours of Ground School focusing on the various techniques that we will put in to practice during the flights, eg. take-off and landing, hovering and emergency procedures (if you are brave enough?).
During the later stages of the Flight Training, you will spend the majority of the time hands on - controlling the helicopter. It's amazing how quickly you will learn! The flight time will normally be split into two or three separate sections.
As with all our Trial Lesson experiences, the flight time will count towards the requirements of the LAPL(H) and PPL(H) should you wish to continue with further lessons.
*Please be aware that due to centre of gravity considerations, we are unable to fly passengers who weigh more than 15 stone (210lbs).
